The Student Organist
The Student Organist series has been developed over many years of professional tuition. It adopts a rather unique method not found in many contemporary courses that often rely on the student memorizing hundreds of chord names. We have found this slows progress, particularly on mid to advanced books and severely limits the ability of the Student. Right from book one you will quickly recognize chords in the Bass Cleff which means it wont be long before you are able to pick up almost any piece of music and play without having to research unknown or tricky chord names. Book One introduces just four chords. By the end of the book the student can discern the chord to be played by sight. Book Two introduces a ‘Match the Chord’ system. This gives a written example at the top of each page of all chords used in that particular piece of music. This system is included throughout the rest of the course. Having completed Book Five, the Student will have progressed through six Major Key signatures and three Minor Keys. Recognize thirty-six chords, and have the ability to work out the formation and notation of chord structure. Also will have gained limited knowledge on how to improvise. |

Overview
A comprehensive course, easy to understand, giving a good basic knowledge of the fundamentals of music. It includes all relevant theory. Whether you are an experienced organist/pianist who wishes to make full use of chords written in the bass cleff or you are a complete novice starting from scratch - this course is for you. The aim is to allow you to pick up and play any piece of music regardless of whether it has chord symbols above the melody line or chords written in the bass cleff.
Each new step is explained as it occurs, not explaining too much at any one time. Hints for ease of playing have been added to many pieces of music. Special emphasis is placed on reading of the Bass cleff, thus enabling the student eventually to pick up any kind of music, i.e. piano/sheet music and be able to ‘read’ and play as written. Careful attention has been given to the fingering to enable ease of playing.
The course includes Traditional, Light Classical and some of my own compositions. The music will never date. Many of the pieces are familiar to young and old alike.
Scales are included at the introduction of each new Key Signature. Along with a special piece of music written for the new key.
Various styles of playing are introduced through the course, Waltz, Latin, Country, Blues etc. Organ registrations and Drawbar settings are included at the back of each book.
Each book in this course is spiral bound for ease of opening, using a different coloured cover for each book.
